Meryl Udell and Karen Mahan had plans to own a pet after they completed work on their home in October 2006. But when they were asked take in a stray kitten, they simply couldn't resist. They named her Clementine.

Madison and Daisy's Cancer Stories - Lymphoma and Mast Cell Tumor

When Nancy and Fred Skoczylas came across an ad for a two-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog named Madison, they fell in love with her just as quickly as they had fallen in love with their Bernese puppy, Daisy. "Madison was a very special, expressive dog who had almost human emotions," said Nancy. "We had to have her in our family."

Madison had only lived with her new family for nine months when Nancy, who works in human and holistic medicine, found lumps and became suspicious that Madison had cancer.

It was Christmas Day 2007, when Frank Santonastasi found a tumor the size of a golf ball inside the mouth of his thirteen-year-old Chow/Rottweiler mix, Bailey. "Bailey is always picking up things on our walks," said Frank. "When I reached into her mouth, I was confused for a moment why the tumor wouldn't come out."

Roxy - A Brave American Staffordshire Terrier Fights Lymphoma

In March 2009, Melissa Goodwin was petting her seven-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier, Roxy, when she found a swelling on her belly, near Roxy's back legs. A strong, healthy and active dog, Roxy had no previous illness and was scheduled for her yearly check-up, so Melissa brought the swelling to the attention of her veterinarian. Her veterinarian showed Melissa other swollen lymph nodes in the back of Roxy's legs, in her throat, in front of her shoulders, and on her chest. The lymph nodes were sampled to confirm her diagnosis. Three days later, Melissa and her fiance, Ken Freiheit, were given the news that Roxy had lymphoma.
